William R. Farrell is a painting that depicts Captain
Quentin C. Aanenson,366th Fighter Group, 391st Fighter Squadron, 9th
Air Force, U.S. Army Air Corps, having just returned from a combat
mission over Germany during World War II.
It is an image that pays tribute to
those who fly and fight for their countries in time of war. Thunderbolt Patriot
was created for all airmen willing to make the ultimate
sacrifice.

National Air and Space Museum.

Mr. Aanenson's vivid recollections of
his participation as a fighter pilot in WWII are significant and
emotionally powerful contributions to the Ken
Burns' PBS film: The
War.
For his outstanding service to our
country Captain Aanenson received many citations including the
Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart, the Air Medal with nine
Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Presidential Unit Citation
On the occasion of the 50th
Anniversary of the landings at Normandy, in an effort to warmly thank
the Air Forces of the United States of America and to reward one of the
brave fighter pilots in the European Theater of Operations, French
President Francois Mitterrand appointed Quentin C. Aanenson Commandeur
of the French Legion of Honor.
William R. Farrell is an award winning
artist whose paintings, photographs and drawings have appeared in over
300 international publications and in over 200 private collections and
museums. He is a graduate of Yale University with a degree in
